Union doesn’t stop at the Union’s borders. It reaches out to the whole of the continent. To all the people, languages and cultures equally. And music and solidarity between the people don’t know any borders. How could this become more visible than today, only meters away from the Belarusian border?

The European Union is about freedom. Freedom to speak, to gather, to sing. And about the freedom of choice. Together we can tackle big challenges. Environmental problems – think about the catastrophe such as it happened in Chernobyl, but also climate change, energy security, equal opportunities, globalization – issues that don’t care about borders. Overall, the European Union is about solidarity. And we have a lot to share with the people of Belarus.

As you, the youth of Belarus, have to share a lot with us. Especially, your courage.

I believe that in particularly, the young generation has a mission. You have to speak up, tell us what matters to you and what we can do for you. We are extending our hand to the people of Belarus, and I’m sure that you can see this and today even hear it. It is the outstretched hand of friendship. That is an opportunity to choose democratic future. Of course, I also hope that the government of Belarus will answer to the needs of its people and start with the reform process and end the self-imposed isolation.

I’m looking forward to the day when Belarus takes its place in the European family, sharing the values of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. And I’m looking forward when Belarusians fully participate in a festival like Be2Gether and make their voice heard loudly.
